Maria's marriage was not a happy one. Thomas Rowe was absent a lot of the time. This would explain a rumor from Eliabeth Burr that Thomas Rowe had a second family somewhere else. This is probably the ownly contact between the Rowes and the Muddocks, this was because the Muddocks looked down on the Rowes. Another reason is that Thomas (presuambly) had got Maria pregnant. She was a great church goer.¹⁸
